Hi. I have wanted to learn to play the marimba for years, and have finally decided to do it. I'm an adult, long out of school. I'd appreciate input from you experienced musicians and students out there. Should I start out learning on one of the kits with the bells and practice pad? Is that the usual way to begin before investing in a marimba? Or should I just take the plunge on the real deal? As for a first marimba, do you recommend I start with a 3-octave or a 4-octave? I'd like an instrument I can grow with for at least a few years. Any other helpful advice for a newbie? Thanks!
