Phil,
Years ago, Bill Molenhof published several small-group arrangements of songs from his "Beach Street Years" album. I believe they were published by Kendor Music, specifically. They probably have the melody written for vibraphone instead of marimba, but they could easily be adapted so that the melody is assigned to the marimba. The last I heard, they are available from Steve Weiss Music; if not, contact Bill directly via his web site: "http://www.molenhof.com">http://www.molenhof.com.
I'm not familiar offhand with other commercially available, previously-arranged pieces in the jazz style specifically featuring marimba as the solo instrument. If you're willing to transcribe some songs off of recordings, I'd suggest the following:
- "Ladies in Mercedes" - composed by Steve Swallow, recorded by Gary Burton on his "Real Life Hits" album
- "Song Of My People" - composed by Peter Erskine, recorded by Mike Mainieri on his "An American Diary" album
- "Bullet Train" - composed by Mike Mainieri, recorded on his "Wanderlust" album (it may have the melody played on vibes, but the melody would be especially well-suited to the marimba)
- Bill Molenhof's album, "All Pass By," features a number of arrangements assigning the melody to the marimba.
Additionally, I understand that Bill Molenhof has come out with a new CD, "Do You Vibe?," which incorporates marimba in the ensemble. I don't know if Bill has published any arrangements from this album.
Good luck,
JW
