100% agree on the "Have you ever seen what high school kids can do to a school instrument?" I'm a high school student myself, and while I am personally obsessive about the care of keyboard instruments (I pretty much abduct our school's only rosewood- a 4.6 octave- regularly to practice on my own and to protect it from my peers), the vast majority of students my age and younger won't respect the instruments as much. I think it is possible, however, to teach students to take care of such instruments, if their value is made clear to the students, then younger persons wouldn't have very much difficulty taking care of such wonderful instruments. Just a comment; thought your question was funny.
