Hey Larry, Don't worry, I think that is a valuable opinion you have, and I agree with you too. The way I feel is that it IS a gimick, but if there was more flexibility, then maybe it would be worth trying to do. I know how to hold it in a Burton grip variation like how Keiko Abe does it, but I think there are people that do it in a Stevens/Musser variation. I think that maybe there are too many great pieces for four mallets, and six may not be neccessary. Maybe for ONE chrale type piece, but why go through all the trouble. Or maybe, marimbists don't want to admi that they have a hard time at reading six notes at the same time. :) Really, I HATE D#. If I do octave C#s on the lower part of the marimba, the outside mallet always hits that stupid D# instead. They should get rid of that bar... ~Behzad
