Torse III had five notes at one point? That is really interesting! I am sure Keiko Abe told him to change it, as she did the same with Tanaka, telling him to make his Two Movements for marimba a four mallet piece instead of two. I think that might be why the first movement has so many octave stuff in it, because maybe he didn't know what to esle to do.(?) One of my teachers is Rebecca Kite, she lives like 20 minutes away from my house. She recently premiered Circe, though I have yet to hear it. I will check it out. Might be interesting, but I wouldn't want to deal with trying to learn six mallet stuff anyways. If anything, I think that we are lucky enough to have great music being written for the marimba. And I think that having the "limit" of using only four mallets makes it that much more interesting. If our bodies were able to make us easily hold 10 mallets, then the music would not be interesting anymore. It would just become piano repertoire from there. Four mallets gives the composer a great challenge, thus coming with such interesting music, such as Merlin, Reflections, After Syrinx II, marimbology, velocities, etc. ~Behzad
