Scott,

When I was in school, most of the students gave Gordon's four-mallet grip a try; however, most ended up using either the Stevens or the Burton, FWIW. I think it's a great option for a marimbist who wants an alternative to the Stevens grip.

If you do want to try your hand at it, I *strongly* recommend getting some in-person instruction from someone who is familiar with the grip, rather than relying on a text description (especially MY hideous text description earlier in this thread!) I say this not because of any problems specific to Gordon's grip; I'd throw out this caveat regarding any four-mallet grip. Leigh Stevens has a much stronger command of the language than I do, and even *he* made extensive use of pictures in his Method of Movement book, when describing the mechanics of his grip.
